Director Sarah J. Rodriguez

Sarah Jane Rodriguez is currently serving her third term as Director of the APWU Plan. Since her initial election by the membership in 2019, she has leveraged over 20 years of experience as a dedicated union leader to advocate for the health and well-being of APWU members and their families.

Sarah’s journey with the U.S. Postal Service began at age 18 as a non-career employee. Her rise through the union ranks is marked by a range of leadership roles. She served in local leadership for three terms as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Phoenix Metro Area Local. She worked in member advocacy and representation as a Steward, Chief Steward, Step 2 Designee, and Editor. Sarah continues her dedication to growing the APWU and championing the advancement of diverse voices in the labor movement through her active engagement with the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and Post Office Women for Equal Rights ( POWER). Sarah continues her dedication to member advocacy through her role as Health Plan Director.

Sarah maintains a transparent leadership style. She works in close partnership with health plan representatives and actively encourages member feedback to help shape the future of the organization.

Sarah and her family reside in the Baltimore, Maryland, metro area. As a member of the APWU Health Plan herself, she remains committed to the mission of providing quality, affordable healthcare for the postal community.

The APWU Health Plan

The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Health Plan is a national preferred provider organization (PPO) that offers both a fee-for-service High Option plan and a Consumer Driven Option health plan. Both options are open to all employees or retirees covered under the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. Located in Elkridge, Maryland, the Health Plan is a department of the American Postal Workers Union. We employee over 200 people to service the 205,000 people covered by the Health Plan. Note: The APWU Health Plan is self-administered and self-underwritten.
